Biographical Note

Shirley Stevenson is a Texas artist whose work has focused on quilting and quilted wearables. Stevenson attended the University of Texas, where she completed a degree in art education. She then spent time working as an art teacher, artist, and interior designer before shifting focus to quilting in 1980. Her designs quickly gained popularity, and Stevenson’s quilted wearables have been featured in fashion shows such as the American Quilters Society’s fashion show, and her quilts have been exhibited in galleries and museums, including the Dallas Museum of Art. Because of the high demand for her works, in 1989 Stevenson began offering her designs as patterns under the brand name Color Me Patterns. In the 1990s she also designed patterns for Vogue and Butterick.
