Biographical Note

Wichita Falls native Bettie Naylor (1927-2012) was a Texas lobbyist and gay rights advocate for more than 30 years. She was a founding board member of the Human Rights Campaign and a founder of both the Texas and National Women's Political Caucus groups. Her lobbying firm Bettie Naylor and Associates took on clients to support gay rights, marriage equality, and female politicians; in addition, Naylor’s pro bono advocacy work supported the Lesbian/Gay Rights Lobby of Texas.

In 2012, the city of Austin, Texas, renamed a five-block stretch of 4th Street "Bettie Naylor Street" in her honor.
