Abstract: Four siblings of the Ekman family, children of Ellen Ekman, who attended the University of Texas at Austin but did not graduate, were graduates of UT. Dr. Carl J. Ivan Ekman graduated with a M.D. degree in 1924, and Naomi, Marguerite, and Mabel Ekman all earned Bachelor of Arts degrees, in 1926, 1934, and 1936, respectively. The papers include printed material documenting the early history of UT as well as scholarly and professional organizations and endeavours of the siblings.

Biographical Note

Four siblings of the Ekman family, children of Ellen Ekman, who attended the University of Texas at Austin but did not graduate, were graduates of UT. Dr. Carl J. Ivan Ekman graduated with a M.D. degree in 1924, and Naomi, Marguerite, and Mabel Ekman all earned Bachelor of Arts degrees, in 1926, 1934, and 1936, respectively.

Scope and Contents

The Ekman Family Papers, 1917-1978, include printed material documenting the early history of UT as well as scholarly and professional organizations and endeavours of the siblings. Special items of note include the program book for the inauguration of Homer Price Rainey as President of the University of Texas at Austin, 1939; UT Commencement books and invitations from the 1920s and 1930s; two copies of the Austin Centennial Weekly, the official program of the UT Centennial Exposition (all found in the Miscellaneous Ekman family papers folder); and bulletins, song books, programs, and other printed material pertaining to the Delta Kappa Gamma National Honor Society for Women Teachers, of which Naomi Ekman became a member in 1934. A few photographs of members of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society are also included. In addition, Marguerite Ekman's experience with the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, her 30 year employment with the UT University Supply and Mail Service, and Naomi Ekman's experience with the Pilot Club International are documented. The collection also includes miscellaneous printed material pertaining to band and concert events at UT in the 1930s and 1940s as well as a program book put out by the Ex-Students' Association in honor of Texas Independence Day in 1922.
