Biographical Note

Earl Dickens was born October 26, 1898, in Austin, Texas. For 35 years he was a mechanician, caring for most of the equipment, and laboratory supervisor in the Department of Physics at The University of Texas at Austin. He was a member of the Church of Christ and at one time was a lead violinist for the Austin Methodist Symphony. He died in Rockdale, Texas, on July 17, 1990.

Scope and Contents

The Earl Dickens Papers, 1905, 1913-1950, 1990, include photographs, UT memorabilia, artifacts, newspaper clippings, and an Austin telephone book of 1913. The photographs pertain to the University of Texas at Austin; Austin, San Marcos, Cleveland, and San Antonio, Texas; a P.O.W. camp at Camp Swift, ca. 1945; and Europe during World War I, ca. 1917-1919. The collection contains an Austin telephone book, 1913, and a Bulletin of The University of Texas from 1905, that have been separated to the library collection.
