Biographical Note

William Paxton Boyd was born on August 28, 1897, in Amarillo, Texas. He earned a BA degree in 1925 from North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, Texas, and a MA degree in 1926 from The University of Texas at Austin. He joined the UT business faculty in 1926 and served until his retirement in 1971. He was best known for his course Business Communication 322, which he taught on business report and letter writing. In 1971 he received the Distinguished Scholastic Contributions Award, an honor given by the College of Business Administration Foundation Advisory Council to recognize outstanding members of the UT Austin business faculty.

Professor Boyd was the co-author (with Raymond Lesikar) of the textbook "Productive Business Writing" and a Fellow and former president of the American Business Writing Association. He is noted in "Who's Who in the South and Southwest". An active, longtime participant in church life, Boyd served as chairman of the board, deacon, and elder of the Central Christian Church of Austin, Texas. He also taught Sunday school and sang in the choir there. Additionally, Boyd was a longtime member of the Austin Kiwanis Club, serving on the board of directors and as editor of the Kiwanis Klarion.

Professor Boyd was deeply interested in family history and genealogy and was also known as the neighborhood "candyman", a role that earned him great popularity with children. He died in Austin on December 13, 1987.
