Biographical Note

Leonidas Theodore (L. T. "Slim") Barrow was born in Manor, Texas, in 1895 and moved to Austin with his family at a very young age. After one year of service in the Signal Corps of the United States Army, Barrow enrolled in The University of Texas at Austin, earning a bachelor's degree in Geology in 1921. He became an instructor in Geology immediately following his graduation, earning his master's degree in 1923. Barrow went on to work as a geologist for the Humble Oil and Refining Company, later serving as vice-president and chairman of the board.

At The University of Texas, Barrow set up the Hal P. Bybee Fund in the Geological Foundation, which provides funds for leaves, trips, and other benefits for the faculty of the department. There is currently an endowed faculty position named for Barrow in the UT Department of Geology.
