Biographical Note

Nancy N. Barker was born on December 26, 1925, in Mt. Vernon, New York. After earning master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Pennsylvania in 1947 and 1955, she taught at the University of Delaware for a short time before joining the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin in 1955. She was a specialist in French diplomatic history. Dr. Barker authored several books and was the translator and editor of The French Legation in Texas, for which she won numerous awards and prizes. She also won the Leo Gershoy Award from the American Historical Association for Brother to the Sun King: Phillippe, Duke of Orleans.

Nancy Nichols Barker, professor emeritus of history, died in March 1994 of cancer at the age of 68.
