Historical Note

Lampasas County lies in Central Texas near Killeen and covers an area of 714 square miles. Its economy has historically been based on ranching and agriculture. With the growth of the cattle market after the Civil War, Lampasas County became a center for the cattle industry in Texas.

Scope and Contents

Consisting of one page, the G. W. Stunock Cattle Bill of Sale documents the sale of four cows to J. F. Skinner for twenty dollars in Lampasas County, Texas on August 30th, 1887.

The back side of the bill includes illustrations of buildings in the City of Lampasas, as well as a promotional description of the city.

Note: Signature on bill of sale difficult to decipher. Spelling of the name "Stunock" is likely, but uncertain.
