A Guide to the UT Department of English Records, 1964-1968, 2000-2001
The UT Department of English’s goal is the “cultivation of advanced literacy.” With this goal, the Department of English is dedicated to teaching the ability to articulate and defend ideas to the students, to appreciate the value of ideas different from one’s own, and to cooperate in reaching measured consensus about the concerns raised by individual works.

Papers relating to the National Defenese Education Act (NDEA) Institute for English teachers, organizational charts for the Department of English, and the Department’s faculty directory. Consists of applications and projects for the NDEA's Institute for English teachers 1965-1968, as well as correspondence and the publication "The Daily English Teacher." This collection contains organizational charts for the Department of English from May 2001 as well as the Department’s faculty directory, organized by rank, from 2000-2001. These two parts of the collection help to provide insights into the structure of the Department of English.
