A Guide to the Thomas James Arithmetic Book, 1802
Thomas James (1785- ) was born in Virginia. Few details remain about James, but it is known that he married Margaret Hoard (1800- ) and he taught school. When he was 17 and already teaching, James created the arithmetic text that constitutes the collection. It is thought that he died in Fulton, Missouri. Douglas Batson, James’s great-great-great grandson, and his wife, Amanda Batson, donated the text.
The collection consists of an arithmetic text written by Thomas James. The cover is made of hand-woven linen and the contents are handwritten in ink.
