Scope and Contents

Consisting of research papers, articles, manuscript notes and notebooks, correspondence and photocopies of original letters, newspaper clippings, diaries and book chapters, the Timothy M. Gay Papers, 1938-2012, document the research performed between 2009 and 2012 by author and historian Timothy Gay for his book “Assignment to Hell: The War Against Nazi Germany with Correspondents Walter Cronkite, Andy Rooney, A.J. In addition to the photocopies of letters and clippings produced by the main correspondents covered in the book, the research papers include articles related to general topics, such as war correspondents, the writing 69th group, and WWII campaigns and aircrafts, as well as main and secondary characters. The research documents also include correspondence with several archival repositories, libraries, historical societies and other WWII authors, as well as family members of some of these characters, illustrating the author’s documentation process. Further interesting notions about the book publishing industry are also shown in the correspondence and contracts between the author, the literary agency and the publishing company.
