Scope and Contents

The University of Texas System Office of General Counsel Records contain primarily financial statements, lease agreements, proposals, reports, and memoranda from 1981 to 1987 relating to legal issues with the UT West Texas vineyards. The vineyard was initially created for experimental research on University Lands near Fort Stockton, Texas and was later leased to a commercial winery.

Other materials from 1940 to 1981 include correspondence, proposals, and studies relating to the General Counsel’s legal oversight of the Texas Memorial Stadium (now Darrel K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium), student activities and affairs, the Graduate School of Business’ executive MBA program, McDonald Observatory, and Farm Aim. Also included is some correspondence by UT presidents Logan Wilson and Homer P. Rainey.
