Historical Note

The Bureau of Business Research, founded in 1926, operates as a research organization under the College and Graduate School of Business at the University of Texas. The bureau conducts and publishes original research, surveys, and data analysis on the economic condition of Texas businesses and industries. Alonzo B. Cox was the bureau’s first director. In 1927, the bureau established the Texas Business Review and in 1933 began publication of the annual Directory of Texas Manufacturers. In 2005, the bureau became a research unit of UT’s IC2 Institute.

The Natural Fibers Research and Information Center, previously known as Natural Fibers Economic Research, served as a source of publications related to the cotton, wool, mohair, and oilseed industries of Texas. It became a division of the bureau supported by the Natural Fibers and Food Protein Commission of Texas in 1983 and was closed in 2007.

The Natural Fibers Research and Information Center series contains the original arbitration records for the Texas Cotton Association from 1912 to 1928.

In addition, 35 black and white photographic prints document industrial development in Texas from 1963 to 1973.
