Biographical Note

Everitt Donald (E.D.) Walker was born on April 27, 1922.

In 1955, he became the business manager and comptroller of hospitals at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and in 1964 was named associate director of the branch.

Walker joined the University of Texas System Administration in 1965 as director of facilities for planning and construction. He also served as vice chancellor and executive vice chancellor for Business Affairs, executive vice chancellor for Fiscal Affairs, deputy chancellor for Administration, and deputy chancellor. Walker was named as the first president of the UT System in 1977 and also became the acting chancellor. In 1978, when the position of president was abolished, he was named chancellor. He retired from the chancellorship in 1984 to become the executive director of the Hermann Hospital Estate.

Walker died on May 1, 1991.
