			<p>Born in New Braunfels, Texas, Chester Geue (1899-1975) learned to speak German at an
				early age. He earned degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering at the
				University of Texas at Austin before embarking on an engineering career in steam
				electric power. Geue’s lifelong interest in the history of German settlement in
				Texas, and particularly the New Braunfels area, flourished as he partnered with his
				wife Ethel Hander Geue on numerous research and writing projects. (adapted from

					United States of North America and Texas</emph> and von Wrede’s <emph
					render="italic">Lebensbilder aus den vereiningten Staaten von Nordamerika und
