Historical Note

The Frank C. Erwin, Jr. History Project was created in 1993 by Jeff D. Sandefer, UT Graduate School of Business lecturer, as a means to acquire source material for him to author a biography on Frank C. Erwin, Jr. Erwin was an Austin attorney and University of Texas regent from 1963 to 1975. The Project collected and reviewed archival material related to Erwin’s life and career, in addition to conducting approximately 175 oral history interviews from 1993 to 1996.

In 1996, the research division of the project was disbanded. Its office and materials were moved to Sandefer’s suite at Sandefer Capital Partners, Inc. in Austin, Texas, at which point Sandefer and the project’s director, Sheree Scarborough, marked transcripts according to their subject and the section of the biography for which they were intended. These then comprised "scene packets" to be explored in further detail in Sandefer’s book.

In 2009, Sandefer donated the project files to the Briscoe Center for American History.
