			<head>Biographical/Historical Note</head>
			<p>Fritz Engelhard (1878-1957) was a rancher, farmer, and state legislator from Eagle Lake, Texas. Born in Rising City, Nebraska, Engelhard graduated from Yale University. In 1937 he married Gay Buis in Del Rio, Texas, later moving to Eagle Lake. Elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1931 and again in 1933, Engelhard was an organizer of the Colorado River Improvement Association and a sponsor of bills to create the Lower Colorado River Authority in which he later served as chairman. Engelhard served as 10th District Supervisor of the federal farm census and was active in the work of the Farm Bureau. He was memorialized in the Texas House Journal, Vol. I., 55th Legislature, 1957, p. 847.</p>
