Biographical/Historical NoteA childhood friend of Andy Rooney, Herbert L. Shultz (1918-2012) was raised in Albany and attended the Albany Academy with Rooney. After graduating from Princeton in 1940, Shultz returned to Albany as a reporter before serving as a Marine during World War II. After his military service, Shultz headed wholesale fuel companies in upstate New York until 1973, when he became Vice President of Development at Vassar College.
