Biographical Note

Very little is known about the career of photographer San Antonio photographer C. O. Lee. Lee began working in the city around 1906 and photographed the region through at least 1916. He managed the Alamo Camera Company and took newspaper images for at least part of his career. Other Texas institutions with collections of Lee’s work include the Fort Sam Houston Museum and the Institute of Texan Cultures in San Antonio.

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of one photograph album (51 photographs) in a traditional expandable snapshot album depicting soldiers at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio and other locations, photographed by C. O. Lee circa 1910 to 1917. The majority of the images in the album show soldiers in training maneuvers with artillery and moving equipment along a road. Additional images show the Hotel Alamo, the Alamo mission, the Texas State Capitol in Austin, women and children eating watermelons, and a soldier riding a bucking horse. Of particular note is an aerial view, with Marjorie Stinson “The Flying School-Marm” credited as pilot. Most images in the album are unidentified.
