Biographical Note
Horace Chilton (1853-1932) was born near Tyler, Texas. After studying law and being
admitted to the Texas bar in 1872, Chilton worked as a lawyer, served as an
assistant attorney general of Texas (1881-1883), a delegate to Democratic National
Conventions of 1888 and 1896, and a U. S. Senator from 1891 to 1892 and 1895 to
1901.

Manuscript notebooks comprise the Horace Chilton Papers, 1888-1923, containing
