(Francis) Warren Roberts (1916-1998) was a professor of 20th century English
literature at the University of Texas at Austin (UT) and later director of the
Humainites Research Center starting in 1962 though his retirement in 1978. Born in
Menard, Texas, Roberts studied at Southwestern University, earning a B. A. in 1938,
and his PhD in 1956 at UT. He specialized in D. H. Lawrence, publishing several
works on the author, and received a Fulbright-Hays fellowship in 1977 to explore
almost 700 letters written by Lawrence from 1921-1924.
