Correspondence, a graduation diploma, a membership certificate, pamphlets, flyers,
programs, and newsletters comprise the Lorena Baker Papers, 1947-1989, documenting
her career as a librarian, her political concerns, and personal matters.
Correspondence, December 18, 1947-April 7, 1989, is from friends, colleagues, and
politicians concerning familial affairs, letters of thank you and congratulations,
and governmental issues such as increasing teacher retirement pensions, foreign aid,
tax policy, and welfare. A diploma is from Baker’s graduation from the University of
Illinois in 1933. Received in 1944, a certificate certifies Baker as a member of the
United States Citizens Service Corps. The collection also includes pamphlets,
flyers, programs, and newsletters (1971-1981) from educational and religious
organizations.
