			<head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>Born in Missoula, Missouri, William Charles Bell (1911-1979) received his bachelor’s degree in 1934 and his master’s degree in 1936, both from Montana State University. In 1939, Bell earned his PhD in Geology from the University of Michigan. Specializing in Cambrian, Ordovician, and Pennsylvanian stratigraphy, he taught at the University of Texas (UT) at Austin from 1940 through 1941, before enlisting in the armed forces during World War II. Following the war, Bell lectured at the University of Minnesota from 1946 through 1953, after which he returned to UT, where he taught invertebrate paleontology, stratigraphy, and photographic techniques applied to paleontology. He authored a number of articles in the <emph render="italic">Journal of Paleontology</emph> and the <emph render="italic">Geological Society of America Bulletin</emph> as well as co-authoring <emph render="italic">Early Upper Cambrian Faunas of Central Montana</emph> (1944). Despite having suffered a stroke in 1972, Bell continued to be an active member of the paleontology community until his death in 1979.</p>
