Biographical Note

Harry McLeary Wurzbach (1874-1931) was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Charles Louis
Wurzbach and Kate Fink. After graduating from the Washington and Lee University
School of Law in 1896, he began practicing law in San Antonio. That same year,
Wurzbach married Frances Darden Wagner. He served in the Spanish-American War and
moved to Seguin, Texas. In 1900, Wurzbach was elected to the post of Guadalupe
County prosecuting attorney and, later, county judge. In 1920, Wurzbach became the
first Texan to be elected as a Republican representative for the 14th Texas District
in the United States Congress where he served until his death in 1931.
