			<head>Biographical Note</head>
			<p>Born to George Rankin Tait (1893-1946) and Lucille Lorine Barber (1892-1989) in Beeville, Texas, George Lawrence Tait (b. 1928) attended the University of Texas at Austin from 1947 through 1951. His father, George Rankin Tait, attended St. Louis College (now St. Mary’s College) in San Antonio, before enlisting in the U. S. Army during World War I. Following the war, he married Lucille Lorine Barber in 1923, and the couple moved to Corpus Christi, where George worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a manager.</p>

			<p>Composed of correspondence, postcards, diaries, printed material, magazine and newspaper clippings, financial records, certificates, books, genealogical and research materials, photographs, and miscellaneous items, the George Tait Family Papers, 1852-1853, 1899-2004, chronicle the history of the Tait and Barber family as well as their activities in Corpus Christi, Fredericksburg, and Beeville, Texas. Correspondence, including both letters and postcards, concerns familial and social affairs, genealogical research, as well as George Lawrence Tait’s experiences as a student at the University of Texas. Several diaries of Lucille Barber Tait discuss her daily activities, while George Rankin Tait’s diary describes his experiences as a soldier during World War I. Printed material consists of publications on real estate in Corpus Christi, child care, theater, and genealogy, among other subjects, as well as several issues of the <emph render="italic">Texas Illustrated Magazine</emph>; magazine and newspaper clippings consist of articles from the <emph render="italic">Daily Texan</emph>, obituaries, and reviews of movies and cultural events; books include <emph render="italic">Texas Coastal Pioneers</emph> [ca. 1952], <emph render="italic">The Manila Hotel</emph> [ca. 1974], among other titles; financial records consist of bank statements, check stubs, grocery bills; certificates document marriages and deaths within the Tait and Barber families; genealogical material includes photocopies of such records as marriage certificates and death notices, as well as family history charts, a sketch entitled <emph render="doublequote">The Gus and Eliza Buck Family of Texas,</emph> and notes. Additionally, the collection contains articles and guides on conducting family and genealogical research, photographs depicting members of the Tait and Barber families and various locations in Texas, such as Beeville and Fredericksburg, and miscellaneous items pertaining to education and entertainment.</p>
