Attorney and author Traylor Russell (b. ca. 1906), married to Arlene Wilson Russell, and founding partner in the law firm Russell & Perkins in Mt. Pleasant, Texas was the author of several books on Texas history, including History of Titus County, Texas (1965), Pioneers and Heroes of Titus County (1974), Centennial History of the Texas Bar (1981), and Some Die twice (1979), co-authored with his son Robert Traylor Russell.

 Scope and Contents

Photostats and newspaper clippings comprise the Traylor Russell Papers, 1964, documenting the history of Titus County, Texas. Photostats are of three historical narratives (1964) written by Russell concerning the genealogy of the Gilpin, Nelson, Burford, Parham, and related families in Titus County. Additionally, the narrative recounts the story of W. R. M. Slaughter, a soldier in the 6th infantry during the Civil War, and Henry Clay Thouston, a soldier and circus performer who settled in Titus County in 1874. Two newspaper clippings by Russell published in the Titus County Tribune concern Indian Raids on Fort Sherman during the 1830’s.
