A Guide to the Round Rock Depot Records, 1881-1928
Biographical NoteIn 1876, the first railroad was introduced in Round Rock, Texas, resulting in the relocation of the town’s primary business district. This event rose from the incorporation of the International and Great Northern Railway Company (I. & G. N.), which intended to construct railway access across Texas. In 1876, the I. & G. N. offered daily service between Round Rock and Georgetown; however, during the 20th century the depot was used less as railway use dropped throughout the state and the entire country. Presently, Amtrak and the Georgetown railroads use the I. & G. N. rail lines, although they do not make stops in Round Rock. Source: “The Railroads of Round Rock.” Round Rock Texas.
