Scope and ContentsComposed of correspondence, promissory notes, broadsides, and newspaper clippings, the Railroads in Texas Collection, 1838-1948, documents the business affairs of several railroad companies in Texas during the 19th and early to mid-20th centuries. The collection concerns the Brazos and Galveston Railroad Company; the Houston and Texas Central Railway Company; the Mexican Central Railway Company; the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway Company; and the Southern Pacific Railroad Company. Correspondence relates to the establishment of the various companies as well as daily business issues, while broadsides advertise transportation on the various lines. Additionally, the collection contains promissory notes and newspaper clippings pertaining to the railroad industry and political issues affecting the companies.
