Biographical NoteSlave owner and soldier Benjamin F. Piper (d. 1864) fought and was mortally wounded during the Civil War. Initially stationed at Camp Henry E. McCullough in Victoria, Texas, he later traveled to Alton, Tennessee and Barnesville, Georgia. McCullough, while a 1864 letter from S. G. Sneed to Susan Piper informs her of her son’s death on a Georgia battlefield.
