			<p>A resident of Austin, Texas, physician W. C. Phillips worked as chief clerk in the office of the Comptroller of Public Accounts during the 1870s. In addition to Phillips’ medical practice, he owned and bred cattle and racing horses.</p>

			<p>One volume composes the W. C. Phillips Account Book, 1854-1874, documenting Phillips’ financial affairs and interest in horse racing. The account book records expenses and fees rendered for medical services as well as notes concerning racehorse lineage and race track records.</p>
