Butcher and farmer George Anton Pfeiffer emigrated from Germany to Texas in the 1840s with his wife Maria Anna Deinhard, daughter of Johann and Margaretha Deinhard. The couple settled in Sandy Creek, near McDade, Texas, and had six sons and two daughters.

Scope and Contents

Correspondence and legal papers compose the George Anton Pfeiffer Papers, 1838-1872, documenting Pfeiffer’s life, family, and career. Legal papers include Pfeiffer’s butcher apprentice certificate (1838), his release from compulsory military service, land deeds, and passport. Correspondence concerning familial matters include letters from his brother-in-law in Bastrop County, Texas and his parents-in-law from Germany. The collection also includes is a map issued by the Houston and Texas Central Railway showing the steamlines between Texas and Europe.
