Biographical NoteA resident of Brandon, Mississippi, H. H. Parker was a physician and planter. During the Civil War, he tended to wounded soldiers from his community. Parker was later appointed state secretary of the Texas State Grange. Parker Papers, 1837-1879, chronicling Parker’s career as a physician and planter in Mississippi, and later as secretary of the Texas State Grange. Correspondence concerns his plantation and business affairs as well as his activities as a physician during the Civil War. Legal documents consist of indentures and financial records include receipts, account papers, and Confederate bonds. Additionally, the collection contains Parker’s poetry.
