Biographical Note
A resident of Round Rock, Texas, T. C. Oatts became the first postmaster for his community in 1851. In addition, he worked as a cattle driver for rancher Dudley Hiram (D. H.) Synder during the late 19th century.

Scope and Contents
Two copies of a typescript compose the T. C. Oatts Diary, 1871-1883, chronicling Oatts’ experiences as a cattle driver for D. H. Snyder. The diary concerns two cattle drives: one from Williamson County, Texas to Schuyler, Nebraska, in 1871; and another from Lampasas County to Mitchell County in West Texas. Travel conditions as well as observations of the landscape are discussed.
