			<p>Following his graduation from the University of Texas at Austin in 1928, Alexander N. Murphree (d. 1961) moved to Denver, Colorado, where he worked as a reporter as well as the music and drama critic/editor for the <emph render="italic">Denver Post</emph>.</p>

			<head>Scope and Contents</head>
			<p>Composed of correspondence, financial records, manuscripts of poetry and articles, notes, a daybook, newspaper and magazine clippings, and photographs, the Alexander N. Murphree Papers, 1953-1955, document Murphree’s career as journalist for the <emph render="italic">Denver Post</emph>. Correspondence concerns familial affairs as well as his reviews of various plays, musical performances, and movies, while financial records consist of bank statements, receipts, and checks. Notes on index cards and in subject files relate to his research for his reviews and manuscripts of poetry and articles illustrate Murphree’s literary endeavors, including drafts of his music and drama reviews. Additionally, newspaper and magazine clippings pertain to journalism, plays, and cultural events.</p>
