Scope and ContentsComposed of original and typescript copies of diaries, notebooks, legal documents, certificates, and a plat map, the John Ernest Mowinckel Papers, 1851-1885, chronicle Mowinckel’s activities in Travis County, Texas. Diaries and notebooks discuss weather conditions and life on the farm, including Mowinckel’s livestock and purchase of agricultural equipment and supplies. Legal documents consist of a deed for the purchase of land in Travis County as well as a military land claim, while certificates relate to property ownership and Mowinckel’s citizenship.
