Born in North Carolina in 1829, Richard Harvey Morris moved with his family to Carroll County, Tennessee at the age of three. He married Margaret Roanne Duke Morris and had at least on son. In 1862, Morris enrolled as a private in the Union 7th Tennessee Cavalry and saw action in various battles throughout Tennessee until being killed in action in Georgia in 1864.

 Scope and Contents

Composed of Photostat letters, the R. H. Morris Letters, 1863-1864, chronicle the experiences of Morris, a soldier in the Union 7th Tennessee Cavalry. Letters relate to familial affairs and his life as a soldier.
