Born in 1674, Richard Colegate served as a Land Commissioner and was a major landholder in colonial Maryland. Born in 1800, William Moore married Charcila Cassandra Van Pradelles in 1835 before moving to Texas where his wife died, after which Moore married his deceased wife’s sister, Colgate Van Pradelles Donaldson before they both died in the mid-1840s.
Composed of a will, family history, and correspondence the William Moore Papers, 1721-1844 chronicle familial affairs of William Moore’s family. The will of Richard Colegate is dated 1721. Correspondence between William Moore and family members document familial affair in the mid-19th century, including letters from Colgate Donaldson to her father-in-law that describe her experiences during the Runaway Scrape in 1836. Additionally, an affidavit provides a basic overview of Moore family members between 1800 and 1846.
