			<head>Biographical Note</head>
			<p>Born in Tennessee to Samuel Hunter, Mary J. Hunter moved with her family near Paris, Texas, in 1851. After her father’s death five years later, Mary married schoolteacher W. B. Minor around 1860. In 1862, W. B. enlisted in the Confederate Army and was stationed at various sites in Louisiana and Texas.</p>

			<p>A bound typescript of correspondence composes the Mary J. Minor Letters, 1863-1864, documenting familial affairs and W. B. Minor’s activities in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Mary discusses life at home in Paris, Texas, while W. B. describes conditions within the army and military encampments in Alexandria, Louisiana, and Grand Prairie, Texas.</p>
