Biographical Note
Born to Pledger Melson and Martha Green Etheridge in Terrell County, North Carolina, Silas Etheridge Melson (1828-1897) married Amelia Cason in 1854. The couple bore twelve children, whom they raised in Pontotoc, Mississippi. During the Civil War, Melson enlisted in Company F of the 41st Mississippi Volunteer Regiment of the Confederate Army.
