			<p>A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Benjamin F. McDaniel fought in the Union Army during the Civil War. Initially a drummer for his regiment, McDaniel eventually fought in the first Battle of Bull Run and well as the Red River campaign in Louisiana in 1864.</p>

			<p>One volume composes the Benjamin F. McDaniel Diary, 1861-1865, chronicling his experiences fighting in the Union Army during the Civil War. The diary describes military life, engaging in the first battle of Bull Run and during the Red River campaign, and the 81st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. Additionally, the diary discusses marching through Louisiana, while also including newspaper clippings concerning the Red River campaign and photographs depicting various soldiers and military encampments.</p>
