A Guide to the Margaret K. Kress Papers, [ca. 1950-1956]
Biographical NoteNative Texan Margaret Kenney (d. 1950) received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin (UT) in 1903. Three years later, she married John Alexander Kress, with whom she had three daughters. Kress returned to UT several years later, earning a master’s in romance languages in 1919. Following her graduation, she taught Spanish at UT until 1949. Additionally, Kress was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Texas State Historical Association, the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, and the Folk Lore Society of Texas. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentsComprising three unpublished manuscripts and printed material, the Margaret K. Kress Papers, [ca. 1950-1956], chronicle Kress’ research and translation of articles on Texas history. Manuscripts consist of an English translation of an article on Bernardo de Miranda y Flores’ exploration of the mines of Los Almagres, Texas, in the mid-18th century and a report with accompanying decrees by Don Jasinto Barrios y Xauregui on the mines at Los Almagres, as well as an article in Spanish on the history of Texas. Additionally, printed material includes an issue of True West Magazine, containing an article on the San Saba mines (1956).
