Biographical NoteTexan Rufus R. Jones (1840-1871) served as a commissioned officer it the Confederate Army as a First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant, and Captain during the Civil War. Following the war he was appointed elector of Travis County. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentsConsisting of original and Photostats of correspondence and legal documents, the Rufus R. Jones Papers, 1860-1881, document his military career as a Confederate officer. Legal documents chronicle his commissions as a First Lieutenant of the Quitman Rifles and as Second Lieutenant of the Austin City Light Infantry. Additionally, the collection contains three loyalty oaths signed by Jones and a Parole of Honor, following the capitulation of the Confederacy. Correspondence relates to battle plans and military orders as well as letters to Thomas Jones in 1880. A bound volume contains Photostats of correspondence, legal documents, and family records for the Jones and allied families.
