Historical NoteEstablished in 1971, the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum is one of thirteen presidential libraries administered by the National Archives and Records Administration. Located on the University of Texas at Austin campus, the Library houses forty-five million pages of historical documents related to the public career of President Lyndon Baines Johnson. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentsPress releases, legal papers, audiotapes, and photographs comprise the Johnson Presidential Library Items, 1965-1971, documenting the establishment of the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin (UT). Papers include an agreement between the federal government and the University of Texas concerning the location of the library and a site plan for the library on the UT campus. Photographs portray the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and East Campus Library and Research Building at the time of its establishment, while audiotapes contain speeches and ceremonies during the library’s May 1971 dedication.
