Biographical Note

During the Civil War, Albert Jernigan served as a noncommissioned officer in the 6th Texas Infantry Regiment in the Confederate Army. After being wounded in the Battle of Missionary Ridge, he settled in Austin, Texas.

Scope and Contents

Photostats of correspondence and financial records compose the Albert Jernigan Letters, 1872-1899, 1953, documenting Jernigan’s financial matters and his experiences fighting in the 6th Texas Infantry Regiment in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. A photocopy of a letter to his parents describes Jernigan and his regiment’s actions during the Battle of Missionary Ridge on November 25, 1863, while also describing an injury that led to the loss of his right arm. Financial records are comprised of land deeds, tax receipts, stock certificates, and several other business documents.
