Composed of correspondence and circulars, the Allen H. Hughey Papers, 1911-1913, document Hughey’s involvement in the Debating and Declamation League of Texas Schools for the El Paso School District. Correspondence between Hughey and Ed Shurter, associate professor of public speaking at the University of Texas at Austin, concern the development of a high school debate curriculum in the School District as well as various scholarships for students. Additionally, circulars concern the Debating and Declamation League of Texas Schools and books on debating published by the South-West Publishing Company.
