A Guide to the Houston (Texas) Papers, 1881-1903, 1928, 1942
Scope and ContentsComposed of a scrapbook and six typescripts of newspaper articles, an inventory, and a school curriculum, the Houston (Texas) Papers, 1881-1903, 1928, 1942, chronicle social, educational, and political affairs in Houston, Texas, from late 19th to the mid-20th century. The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings that discuss a number of topics, such as Confederate soldiers’ reunions, the development of schools, legislation, deaths of prominent citizens, as well as including poetry and editorials on social, literary, and historical subjects (1886-1903). Three typescripts consist of articles from The Houston Post and The Houston Chronicle and Herald concerning various events in Houston and Harris County (1942). Additionally, the collection contains a curriculum for the Houston High School as well as for elementary schools (1881-1882), while two copies of an inventory document the Houston Public Library’s holdings of newspapers (1928).
