A Guide to the S. Lillian Ochiltree Hill Narrative, 1931
Biographical NoteNative Texan S. Lillian Ochiltree (b. 1859) was the daughter of Hugh Ochiltree (1820-1891) and Mary Josephine Shaw (1838-1923). In 1879, she married James Beverly Hill (1840-1889), a veteran of the Confederate Army. Descended from the royal house of Stewart in Scotland, the Ochiltrees immigrated to Cumberland County, North Carolina, in the mid-18th century. In 1839, William Beck Ochiltree, S. Lillian’s great-uncle, moved to Nacogdoches, Texas, where he served as judge of the Fifth Judicial District and in Sixth Texas Legislature in 1855.
