Biographical Note

A native of Dallas, Texas, playwright Cleve Haubold received his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin’s (UT) Department of Drama. He published numerous plays, including The Big Black Box (1964), Follow the Elephants (1965), and The Last of the Papier-Mache Cupids (1965). In addition to his playwriting, Haubold also taught at Texas Christian University and UT.

Manuscripts of plays and correspondence compose the Cleve Haubold Papers, 1964-1980, documenting Haubold’s activities as a graduate student at the University of Texas at Austin and career as a playwright. The collection includes a number of Haubold’s handwritten and typed plays, such as The Big Black Box, Harkee the Cat, The Wise Men and the Elephant, and A Short Walk after Dinner. Additionally, correspondence from various publishers and Haubold concern the publication and production of his plays.
