				documenting her family and social life in Texas. Letters from Embree and her sister
				Anna Keys to their family, 1856, undated, describes their family’s health and
				visiting friends, while one 1864 missive from Embree to her future husband discusses
				her feelings towards him. The diaries, 1862-1884, chronicle daily activities in
				Texas, such as attending church, visiting family and friends, and housekeeping.

			<head>Biographical Note</head>
			<p>Born to Mahala Kenner Keys in Carrolton, Arkansas, Tennessee Keys (1840-1918) moved
				to Texas by 1856, living with her sister Lizza Giles in Bosqueville before moving to
				Bell County. In 1864, she married Dr. John W. Embree (1828-1895), his first wife
				Henrietta having died the previous year. The couple had five children: Beulah
				Sanford, Russell Embree, Harvey Embree, Gillian Creswell, and John W. Embree,
				Jr.</p>
