Scope and ContentsConsisting of newspaper clippings, pedagogical articles, and an administrative report, the Education Scrapbook, 1892-1896, chronicles the methods by which reading was taught in Texas schools during the late 19th century. Loose articles from newspapers as well as the Texas School Journal and Proceedings State Teachers’ Association includes poetry and also concerns a variety of educational issues such as textbooks and music education. The scrapbook proper contains articles on the most effective way to teach reading, a report from the superintendent of Houston schools on the results of a reading exam and poems.
